How to create exercises?
Before creating routines you need exercises in your library. You can use TrainerStudio's predefined exercises or create your own with your video, cover, instructions, and classification.
Video tutorial
Create an exercise step by step
- Go to Library > Exercises in the side menu.
- Click the Create button.
- Fill in the exercise fields and click Save.
The create modal is split into three tabs: Summary, Details, and Images and videos.
Exercise fields
Summary tab
- Name (required): choose a clear, recognizable name (e.g., "Bulgarian Split Squat", "Barbell Bench Press").
- Default instructions: text with execution cues. Be brief and specific so your client knows exactly what to do.
- Tags: add tags to organize and search exercises quickly (e.g., "legs", "glutes", "strength").
Images and videos tab
This tab centralizes the exercise's multimedia. On the left you'll see the cover (the image that identifies the exercise in your library), and on the right all resources attached to it.
- Upload file: opens a menu with every option available:
- Cover image: upload an image directly from your computer and it becomes the cover.
- Image and Video: add local files to the exercise gallery.
- YouTube/Vimeo link: paste an external video URL. It appears as a card in the gallery with the video thumbnail.
- External link: attach a reference link (article, guide, etc.).
- Auto-generated cover: on any YouTube video in the gallery, tap the star (⭐) and its thumbnail becomes the exercise cover.
- Drag and drop: you can also drop files directly onto the gallery area to upload them.
Details tab
Optionally you can classify your exercise in more detail:
- Primary and secondary muscles: select the muscles the exercise targets.
- Movement pattern: push, pull, squat, hip hinge, lunge, etc.
- Strength type: push, pull, isometric, or mixed.
- Mechanics: compound or isolation.
- Laterality: bilateral, unilateral, or alternating.
- Equipment: bodyweight, barbell, dumbbell, kettlebell, machine, resistance band, etc.
Predefined library
TrainerStudio includes a library of predefined exercises with video and description. You can use them directly or create your own so your clients see you — offering a more personal and professional image.
Recommendations
- Use consistent names: decide on a format and stick to it (e.g., always "Bench Press" rather than mixing with other names).
- Add a video whenever you can: your clients will train better if they can see how the exercise is performed. If you record your own videos, it creates a closer connection.
- Set a cover: an exercise with a cover is recognized at a glance in the library and in your clients' routines.
- Classify your exercises: although the fields on the Details tab are optional, classifying your exercises will help you find them faster and filter by muscle group or equipment.
- Don't worry about creating all exercises right now: you can keep adding them as you need them for your routines.
